Our Hereford cattle are a pedigree herd, helping to continue the tradition of one of Britain's most famous breeds. Beginning in 1742 with a bull calf from the cow Silver and two cows, Pidgeon and Mottle, inherited from his fathers estate, Benjamin Tomkins is credited with founding the Hereford Breed. Hereford cattle are coloured dark red with a white face and flanks. Excellent at foraging, docile and with strong mothering characteristics, the cattle are particularly hardy and so live outside all-year round. Fed only on organic pasture and hay, careful grazing ensures they balance the grass species in our meadows and play a central role in enhancing the fertility of the farm.
