Up til now, the Wye Organic Market Garden has been been running a fairly conventional, top-down model with one Head Grower and various Assistant Growers.
Our aim going forward is to restructure, with the focus on giving growers more scope for responsibility, creativity and input, and ultimately, flexiibility, personal development, career progression and fulfillment.
Dividing responsibility for the production areas into 3: Polytunnels, Walled Garden, and Field; and allocating responsibility for overseeing each to specific members of the team.
This does not mean that, for example, the Walled Garden Lead will be responsible for doing all the work in the Walled Garden! Rather, the responsibility is for ensuring that necessary work gets done - by the whole team together.
There is an existing cropping plan to follow (& tweak as necessary) for 2026, with well-established existing systems in place etc, with support and guidance as needed.
The role is deal for someone with experience in an Assistant Grower-type role looking to make that step up.
The Grower (Walled Garden Lead) Role
We are seeking a grower with experience, who wishes to take on more responsibility within an established organic market garden business.
You will join our team as a Grower, taking a lead on our ½ acre Walled Garden, as well as participating in work across other areas of the Market Garden (polytunnels, field, picking & packing etc) as part of the wider team.
The job is ideal for someone with existing experience in an Assistant Grower-type role who may be looking to make the step up to greater responsibility.
Grower (Walled Garden Lead) Job Description
We are recruiting for one Grower on an 8-month contract with seasonal hours:
The role will involve taking a lead role in Walled Garden production, with support and as part of a team, involving all aspects of crop production.
