Welcome to our new blog, where we set out to answer the question, ‘why organic?’.
Here at Wye Organic, our passion is sustainable farming, high quality food and beautiful flowers. This blog’s mission is to break down the barriers to buying organic produce that many people may have, all whilst providing some background into why sustainable farming is important to us and giving our readers some tips, tricks and information on how they too can live a more organic lifestyle.
The best people for the job of telling everyone why organic farming wins over conventional farming, are our three farmers: Barry, Dom and Nanda. Each of our farmers specialise in different areas of the business, and are who work hard day in and day out to make Wye Organic what it is. We thought it would be good in our very first blog issue to introduce you to these important folk.
First up is the Farm manager himself, Barry.
Having worked in management roles on farms of all types and sizes, both organic and conventional, Barry knows what needs doing to make a farm run efficiently.
Barry comes from a family of farmers, so it is safe to say that farming is in his blood. As his career progressed, he has spent the last 15 years augmenting a passion for organic and sustainable farming.

“The first duty of the agriculturalist must always be to understand that he is a part of Nature and cannot escape from his environment. He must therefore obey Nature's rules”.

Next up is Dom, our Head Grower here at Wye Organic.
Dom is the brains behind growing all the wonderful vegetables we have here on the farm, so if you have tried one of our purple peppers or have sampled some spaghetti squash, then he is the one responsible!

“For me ’organic’ means working with life. Healthy soil is defined by its abundance of bacteria, fungi, invertebrates, plant roots and other life forms. Growing quality vegetables is about nurturing these ecosystems from the soil up so that all life forms in the garden thrive.”

Last but certainly not least is our resident flower expert, Nanda.
Her passion lies in the soil, focusing on the essential job of growing the most vibrant and beautiful organic, local flowers here in the Wye valley.
For 2026, her focus will be on supplying top-quality blooms mainly to other florists, but also to customers looking for DIY wedding flowers, or a gorgeous mixed bunch for their home, pub, or restaurant.

“I would like to share a quote with you by Brazilian lyricist and novelist, Paulo Coelho, as I feel it perfectly encapsulates growing flowers: ‘In the cycle of Nature there is no such thing as victory or defeat; there is only movement’

There are more people who work here on the farm, from seasonal veg pickers, to delivery drivers and even our onsite butcher! Each one has an important role to play and helps us to keep the Wye Organic wheels in motion.
If you are new to the organic way of life and have stumbled across our blog – welcome! Or if you are one of our regular customers, it is nice to have you here. This blog will hopefully answer some of your burning questions such as, ‘what makes something organic?’ or ‘can I grow my own veg organically?’ and with a few ‘how to’ guides thrown in for good measure, it will hopefully become a source of information on all things organic!
We hope to see you next month when we will be sharing some behind the scenes info on how we make our special Christmas wreaths.
