Green onions are a great alternative to bulb onions, in particular during the period in late Spring and early Summer when local bulb onions are out of season and most bulb onions are imported from overseas.
They resemble a large spring onion but are in fact an immature bulb onion.
All parts can be eaten - don't chop off the tops and throw away (although one or two may need grading out) as these can be used in all dishes as you would bulb onions, or like leeks. We are really pleased to have these this year as the flavour is much stronger than the imported bulb onions and they are a bit like two vegetables in one with the bulbous base and the leafy tops.
Sold per bunch (typically 3 green onions with tops).
